Babysitter Won't Be Charged After Missing 6-Month-Old NH Boy Found
PELHAM, N.H. (CBS) – A missing Pelham boy was found safe in Massachusetts Friday morning, though his babysitter will not face charges after a police search for the child.
Officers were searching for the six-month-old and 32-year-old Mandy Nigro-Almeida after they failed to show up at the boy's home late Thursday night.
Investigators believed Nigro-Almeida was in the Hyde Park or Dedham area with the child because her cell phone was last pinged there.
She turned herself in to Boston Police in Hyde Park with the boy just before 9 a.m. and was questioned.
Police initially said Nigro-Almeida was arrested and charged with kidnapping, but later changed that, saying she was only in their custody and she was still being questioned.
Later in the day, Boston police added that Nigro-Almeida will not be charged as there was not enough evidence to charge her.
Pelham police said they attempted to submit an Amber Alert request to New Hampshire authorities but it was rejected, because the child had to be in imminent danger and the mother did not believe that was the case.
Nigro-Almeida had watched the boy before, his mother told police, but she had only known the babysitter for a short time.
This is the criteria for an Amber Alert activation in New Hampshire:
* Victim is 17 years of age or younger
* Law Enforcement belives the victim is in danger of serious bodily harm or death
* There is enough descriptive information about the child, abductor, and/or suspect's vehicle to believe an immediate alert will help
* The child and/or abductor is likely to still be in the area.
The boy is now safe with his mother and police said the case is closed.
