Pedroia On 'Miserable' Red Sox: 'We Have To Keep Fighting'
BOSTON (CBS) - With their 9-1 loss to the Texas Rangers Monday night, the Boston Red Sox once again dipped below the .500 mark at 48-49.
"I think we're all miserable," said second baseman Dustin Pedroia, who went 3-for-4 in the loss. "Nobody in here likes losing. We want to win, every single one of us. It's the big leagues, they went out and executed pitches today and swung the bats great -- we didn't. That's how it is, if you play better you win."

"We're fighting. Trying all we can to do something -- everyone is," said Pedroia. "Maybe we should take a step back. When you try to get a hit, the game doesn't come to you. I think we need to take a step back and try to have fun."
With the loss, Boston fell to four games back of the Angels and Athletics for the two Wild Card spots in the American League. But despite their recent woes -- losing four straight after winning five of their first seven out of the All-Star break -- Pedroia is hoping the Sox front office gives them a chance to fight for a playoff spot.

"We hope not," he said of Boston being sellers at next week's trade deadline. "That second wild card could come down to the last week of the season. I was talking to Gary Tuck on the bus, he tells me every year 'look at the standings September 15 and see where you're at.' I remember 2010 we had half of our starters hurt, I looked up and we were still there."
"We have to keep fighting. That's our mindset," said Pedroia.
