Peabody Man Killed After Furnace Malfunction At Home

PEABODY (CBS) - An elderly Peabody man died following an apparent furnace malfunction at his home on Sunday.

A daughter found the victim, 87-year-old Joseph Andrade, dead in the home on Felton Street.

WBZ-TV's Jim Smith reports.

"My cousin came in and found her father here. He was passed away this morning and apparently...it's something to do with the furnace," said Steve Andrade, the victim's nephew.

The house was apparently filled with soot and fumes.

"A couple of the firefighters had to go to Lahey because they were overcome. They busted out the back window of the bathroom, because that's where it was the worst," said Andrade. "His daughter had to go to Salem Hospital and get oxygen because she was in the house for like a half an hour."

The victim had been living at the home alone since his wife passed away a few years ago.

The medical examiner is set to conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
