Patriots Woodhead Feels Fine After Hit

BOSTON (CBS) – New England Patriots running back Danny Woodhead took a vicious hit Thursday night against the Buccaneers, but it sounds like he will be OK.

"I feel fine," Woodhead said after the game, declining to answer any further questions.

The hit came in the fourth quarter, as Woodhead was covering a punt return on special teams. Devin Holland of Tampa delivered what could be deemed as a high, helmet-to-helmet blind side hit that left Woodhead on the ground. He attempted to get up, but stumbled before teammates got to his aid.

It appeared the Patriots back could have suffered a concussion, but everything looked good after the game.

"I saw him in the locker room and he seemed OK," coach Bill Belichick said after the 31-14 win.

Despite the good report, the Patriots will keep an eye on Woodhead, who could sit out next Saturday's game against Detroit as a precaution.

"He got hit pretty hard," quarterback Tom Brady said, adding that Woodhead is a tough player. "That's football. There are guys moving fast out there, especially on punt returns or any returns. Things are happening so fast. He just turned his head, and the guy really gave it to him good. He's a tough guy. Everyone is worried about him, as his teammates would be, but hopefully he's OK."

Woodhead ran for 63 yards on five carries for an average of 12.6 yards.

The Patriots also had a few injuries on defense, losing safety Bret Lockett to a groin/thigh injury and linebacker Dane Fletcher to a thumb injury. Neither returned after getting hurt.
