Welker OK After Ankle Scare In London
BOSTON (CBS) - New England Patriots receiver Wes Welker had to leave Sunday's 45-7 win over the Rams in the fourth quarter with a left ankle injury, but thinks he will be OK as the team enters their bye week.
"I think so," Welker said from the Wembley Stadium locker room in London, England. "We'll evaluate it in the morning. It's hard to tell right after it happens, but we'll evaluate it as the week goes on."

Welker left after getting his ankle caught between the turf and himself, turning it awkwardly. He limped to the sideline after the five-yard reception and was later seen with his leg elevated.
While he did not return to the game, he was back on the sidelines with his helmet on a few minutes later standing next to quarterback Tom Brady. At that point, the Patriots did not need Welker -- or many of their other offensive stars -- in the blowout win.

Welker finished the game with six catches for 48 yards, and leads the team with 60 catches and 736 receiving yards through eight games. He is on pace for 120 catches this season, and should he break the 100-catch mark will become the first receiver in NFL history to have five seasons with 100 receptions.
With the win the Patriots improved to 5-3 on the season, a game better than the Miami Dolphins in the AFC East. Now they enter their bye week and will work on making improvements in all three phases of the game, and of course, getting their injured players healthy.

But going into the bye with such a convincing win has the Patriots feeling good about themselves.
"We have some confidence, so we'll see. You're only as good as your next game," said Welker. "We're taking it one game at a time. We have the bye coming up and we'll get ready for the second part of the season. We have a long way to go, but this was a good start for us."
