Brady, Welker Atop Pro Bowl Fan Voting
BOSTON (CBS) – It looks like the New England Patriots will be well represented when it comes to the Pro Bowl in January.
Hopefully none of them will be playing in the game though.
Quarterback Tom Brady is the leading vote-getter in the AFC with 537,780 votes, according to early returns of the fan voting released on Wednesday.
Brady trails only Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the overall lead.
Brady would have plenty of targets if he is taking snaps for the AFC, but that would mean New England did not make the Super Bowl.
Tight end Rob Gronkowski leads all AFC tight ends with 334,909 votes. Aaron Hernandez is currently third in AFC tight ends.
Receiver Wes Welker is also atop his list, leading AFC receivers with 430,945 votes. Welker is fifth overall in voting, trailing Detroit's Calvin Johnson and Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson.
Logan Mankins is in first for AFC Guards, with Matt Light (second) and Brian Waters (fifth) also appearing in their respective Top 5's in the AFC.
The Patriots defense, despite their struggles, has their fair share of potential Pro Bowlers. Defensive End Andre Carter, fresh off being named Defensive Player of the Week, is second in AFC D-Ends, with defensive tackle Vince Wilfork and corner Kyle Arrington both ranking third at their respective positions.
Fan voting ends Monday, December 19 and will counts one-third into determining the team. The Pro Bowl will be played January 29 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii.
