Patriots To Sign Michigan's QB-Turned-WR Devin Gardner
BOSTON (CBS) -- The 2015 NFL Draft ended early Saturday evening, but the work did not stop for the Patriots.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Patriots worked to get Michigan's Devin Gardner to agree to a deal as an undrafted free agent.
Gardner completed 60.4 percent of his passes in college, throwing for over 6,300 yards on 787 attempts (8.1 Y/A). He threw for 44 touchdowns and 32 interceptions.
But Gardner was not just a passer with Michigan. He rushed for 916 yards on 342 carries, reaching the end zone 24 times. He also caught 18 passes for 286 yards and four touchdowns.
While the Julian Edelman-type of success stories are rare, Gardner is at the very least an intriguing addition to the Patriots' roster on draft weekend.
(Also of note: The Patriots did well in picking a Michigan quarterback once upon a time in the past... )
