Patriots Third Quarter Highs And Lows
BOSTON (CBS) -WBZ-TV's Levan Reid is bringing you all the in-game analysis from the New England Patriots preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Highs:
- We have a Ryan Mallett sighting to start the 3rd quarter. He hit Taylor Price on a 50 yard passing play. All Price on that one. Yards after the catch were big.
- The Pats stayed with Mallett despite getting into a couple of 4th down situations. This payed off. They scored on a 1-yard run by Stevan Ridley. Mallett's first NFL drive stats are 13 plays, 82 yards and 5:57 seconds. He led the Pats on a touchdown drive.
- Jaguars first possession of the quarter and they go 3 and out.
- Pats get the ball back and score again. Mallet to Stevan Ridley for a 16 yard scoring strike. Right now Ridley is the star of the game. 3 touchdowns and over 90 all-purpose yards. That's 26 fantasy points if you are into that.
- Darryl Richard has another sack. That's his second on the night.
The Lows:
- Mallet looked okay on his first drive and then the Pats got into the redzone and he got a delay of game. The the Pats had to take a timeout.
- Special teams just keeps making mistakes. Kicker Chris Koepplin kicked the kickoff out-of-bounds. Linebacker Christian Cox, a rookie out of Utah, was shaken up on the play and had to be escorted off the field.
- The Jags have put together a good drive to end the quarter. Darius Butler is getting torched on this drive. He may be the surprise cut that happens every year in camp.
