Patriots Preseason Finale Ranks Among Boston's Most Watched TV Programs
FOXBOROUGH (CBS) -- The New England Patriots' preseason finale against the New York Giants on Thursday was the highest-rated TV program in Boston since the Academy Awards, outperforming their preseason opener on Aug. 13, according to the Patriots.
The game happened to be played on the same day Judge Richard Berman vacated Tom Brady's four-game suspension.
More than 557,500 viewers watched as the two teams capped off their preseasons for the 11th consecutive year.
The game was the highest-rated TV program in Boston since the Academy Awards on Feb. 22.
It was also the highest-rated program on WBZ-TV since the Grammy Awards on Feb. 8.
The Patriots kick off the regular season by playing host to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 8:30 p.m. in Foxborough.
The team says it will celebrate its Super Bowl XLIX championship with a special pregame ceremony.
Fans are asked to be in their seats by 8 p.m. to participate in the ceremony.
