Patriots NFL Draft Day 2 Live Blog

Follow along for all of the Patriots moves on Day 2 of the NFL Draft.

11:28 p.m.: That's all folks. Rounds 2 and 3 of the 2019 NFL Draft are done, and it was a busy one for the Patriots.

They drafted four players: CB Joejuan Williams; DE Chase Winovich; RB Damien Harris; LT Yodny Cajuste

There were 18 total trades on Friday night, and the Patriots were involved in four of them. We'll be wrapping up Day 2 of the NFL Draft all night, so stick with CBSBoston.com for continuing coverage tonight and tomorrow for Rounds 4-7.

The Patriots have seven picks schedule for tomorrow, all of which are in the fourth or seventh round:

4th Round, No. 118
4th Round, No. 133
4th Round, No. 134
7th Round, No. 239
7th Round, No. 243
7th Round, No. 246
7th Round, No. 252

Expect even more trades from the Patriots on Saturday.

11:23 p.m.: The Patriots did draft a Mountaineer with the 101st overall pick, going with West Virginia left tackle Yodny Cajuste. The Patriots win the award for drafting the coolest names.

Yodny was a four-year starter at West Virginia and stands at 6-foot-5 and 312 lbs. He was hampered by injuries early in his career, and sat out West Virginia's bowl game this year to focus on the Combine.

The Patriots needed some more depth on the offensive line, and Cajuste gives them that. While he was a left tackle at West Virginia, he may see time at guard for the Patriots. He's another young player for Dante Scarnecchia to mold.

11:20 p.m.: If you were hoping the Patriots would close out their night by drafting quarterback Will Grier, you're in for a disappointment. He just went to the Carolina Panthers at No. 100, one pick ahead of the Patriots.

That means the Patriots are on the clock for the final time tonight.

11:11 p.m.: Hey whatdoyaknow. Another trade for the Patriots.

They've traded out of No. 97, sending that pick and No. 162 to the Rams. In return, they get back the 101st overall pick, which they traded earlier this evening, and the No. 133 pick.

So they have one more pick tonight. For now.

10:44 p.m.: It would have been fitting if the Patriots drafted a tight end with the 87th pick. Instead, they went with Alabama running back Damien Harris, who had over 3,000 rushing yards in his collegiate career.

It's a bit of a surprising pick, given the Patriots just drafted Sony Michel in the first round last year, and haven't drafted a tight end or offensive lineman this year (or a quarterback for that matter). But the Patriots morphed into a run-heavy team last year, so the pick makes some sense.

Harris ran for 876 yards and nine touchdowns last year and caught 22 passes out of the backfield. He eclipsed 1,000 yards in both his sophomore and junior year in Alabama, and found the end zone 25 times overall in his four-year collegiate career.

Harris will provide some more depth behind Michel, Rex Burkhead, James White and Brandon Bolden.

10:42 p.m.: The Texans just picked tight end Kahale Warring, one selection before the Patriots.

So no Warring for the Patriots. They're now on the clock at No. 87.

10:08 p.m.: The Patriots went with an edge rusher at No. 77, taking Michigan's Chase Winovich.

Winovich racked up 18.5 sacks in his three years as a defensive lineman at Michigan. He was listed as a tight end his freshman year.

Winovich is 6-foot-3 and 255 lbs, and led the Big Ten in tackles for loss in 2017 with 19. He was an All-American in 2018 and led Michigan with 17 tackles for loss to go with his 69 tackles and five sacks.

The Patriots will next pick at No. 87.

10:06 p.m.: Texas A&M tight end Jace Sternberger is no longer an option for the Patriots, going to Green Bay with pick No. 75.

Washington is on the clock with the Patriots on deck.

9:57 p.m.: NEVERMIND. The Patriots have swung yet another trade, their third of the evening.

They'll next pick at No. 77, then at No. 87, and then at No. 97. Unless of course they work another trade or two or three or 12. Pick No. 162 is in the fifth-round.

9:56 p.m.: Here we go. The Patriots are on the clock with the No. 73 overall pick.

They'll also pick at No. 77.

9:42 p.m.: Jimmy Garoppolo has another new target tonight. The 49ers drafted Baylor wide out Jalen Hurd with the 67th overall pick.

Jimmy is getting some weapons tonight. Jimmy must love that.

9:40 p.m.: Who knows if Josh Rosen will work out in Miami. But the Dolphins gave up next to nothing for last year's No. 10 overall selection.

What is this? Competence elsewhere in the AFC East???

9:34 p.m.: The Cardinals kicked off the third round by picking Boston College defensive end Zach Allen at No. 65.

9:27 p.m.:  The Patriots are not on the clock anymore. They have traded out of the No. 64 pick, sending it to the Seattle Seahawks for picks No. 77 and No. 118.

So the waiting game continues. The Patriots have three remaining picks tonight at No. 73, No. 77 and No. 97. Gotta wonder if they wanted Isabella, but when he was off the board they were willing to trade back to get an additional pick.

The Seahawks took wide receiver D.K. Metcalf out of Ole Miss with the pick. He was projected to be a first-round pick ahead of the draft.

9:26 p.m.: The Patriots are on the clock with the final pick of the second round.

9:23 p.m.: Kyler Murray has a speedy receiver to throw to in Arizona. The Cardinals just drafted UMass wide receiver Andy Isabella with the No. 62 pick.

Kansas City is now on the clock, with New England in the on-deck circle.

9:20 p.m.: And boom goes the dynamite. The Dolphins have reportedly landed quarterback Josh Rosen from the Arizona Cardinals.

The No. 62 pick is expected to head to Arizona, with a few more picks likely involved in the trade. Brian Flores has his quarterback in Miami.

8:54 p.m.: On his conference call with the New England media, Joejuan Williams said he is "the complete package," a player who can run, cover and hit. Gotta love the kid's confidence, especially as a corner.

If you're wondering if he may play a little free safety, given his size, he also said that Belichick sees him as a corner. The two had a private film session during Williams' pre-draft visit. Williams said he wants to be a coach when his playing career is over, and he's a bit of a film junkie.

"I watch film like I watch Game of Thrones," he said.

Can this kid sound any more like a Patriot?

Williams currently calls Hendersonville, Tennessee his home, which is about 20 miles away from Nashville. He was pretty emotional when hearing his name called on Friday.

The Rams didn't end up using the No. 56 pick they got from New England, sending it off to the Kansas City Chiefs. KC then drafted wide receiver Mecole Hardman, since they will likely need a new top receiver next season.

8:40 p.m.: Another tight end is now gone, with the Bengals taking Washington's Drew Sample at No. 52.

8:32 p.m.: There goes one tight end option for the Patriots. Irv Smith Jr. from Alabama just went to the Minnesota Vikings at No. 50.

But that may mean veteran tight end Kyle Rudolph is now available. If that's the case, the Patriots should make a phone call or two.

8:08 p.m.: After trading up, the Patriots drafted Vanderbilt defensive back Joejuan Williams.

Williams measures in at 6-foot-4 and 211 lbs, so he has some great size and length.

They saw the run on defensive backs and didn't want to wait until No. 56. The Pats will pick next at No. 64, and they still have picks No. 73 and No. 97 in the third round.

Dont'a Hightower announced the pick in Nashville. The 101st overall pick the Patriots sent to the Rams was a comp pick for Malcolm Butler.

8:06 p.m.: The Patriots have swung a trade with the Rams and are now on the clock at No. 45.

The Pats sent picks No. 56 and No. 101 to the team they just beat in the Super Bowl. Now we wait to see who they're selecting.

8:00 p.m.: The Patriots are reportedly looking to move up, according to Ian Rapoport.

Maybe they really want a certain receiver or defensive back. Or maybe West Virginia QB Will Grier. We'll see....

7:58 p.m.: The Broncos have their (next) quarterback of the future. They drafted Missouri passer Drew Lock at No. 42.

Not many expected Lock to last this long. Then again, no one really expected Daniel Jones to go in the Top 5.

7:54 p.m.: The Denver Broncos are doing what they can to protect Joe Flacco. They just drafted K-State tackle Dalton Risner with No. 41.

Or will be be protecting a different QB? The Broncos worked a trade with the Cincinnati Bengals and are back on the clock. Perhaps they moved up to draft a young quarterback?

7:48 p.m.: The run on corners continues. The Raiders just drafted Clemson cornerback Trayvon Mullen at No. 40. That's four corners in eight picks so far.

7:40 p.m.: Another corner is off the board, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted Central Michigan's Sean Bunting at 39 overall.

7:33 p.m.:  The Buffalo Bills traded up to No. 38 and drafted tackle Cody Ford out of Oklahoma.

Buffalo sends the No. 40 and No. 158 picks to Oakland. They initially acquired that No. 158 pick from the Raiders in the A.J. McCarron swap last September.

There have been three trades in the first six picks this round. So far three tackles, two corners and a receiver have been drafted in the second round.

7:29 p.m.: The first slot receiver/return man has come off the board. The 49ers drafted South Carolina's Deebo Samuel with the 36th pick. Jimmy G. should have fun with Samuel in his arsenal.

Could start a run on receivers, and there are plenty of them out there tonight.

7:19 p.m.: As we wait for New England's first pick tonight, it's pretty clear that their first-round selection is excited to be a member of the Patriots.

N'Keal Harry just shared a picture of himself in a Patriots uniform:

7:00 p.m.:  And away we go. Round 2 of the 2019 NFL Draft is underway and the Arizona Cardinals are back on the clock.

Teams have seven minutes to make their selection in the second round. Get comfy, folks. It's gonna be a long -- but fun -- Friday night.

6:30 p.m.: Patriots fans had to wait until late Thursday evening to see their team make their first pick in the NFL Draft. There will be a lot more action Friday night.

The Patriots head into the night with five selections in the second and third rounds, and with 11 picks overall remaining in the 2019 NFL Draft, chances are they could be on the move -- whether it's up, down or out. Here is Bill Belichick and Nick Caserio's collection of picks for Friday night:

2nd Round, 56th overall
2nd Round, 64th overall
3rd Round, 73rd overall
3rd Round, 97th overall
3rd Round, 101st overall

After drafting wide receiver N'Keal Harry in the first round, the Patriots can go a number of different ways Friday night. They still have a Rob Gronkowski-sized hole at tight end, and both Alabama's Irv Smith Jr. and Texas A&M's Jace Sternberger are still on the board. And if they want another receiver for Brady's arsenal, South Carolina's Deebo Samuel, Ohio State's Terry McLaurin, Georgia's Mecole Hardman and Riley Ridley, and UMass' Andy Isabella are still available.

How about a quarterback of the future? The present is still pretty darn good with Tom Brady, but he will be 42 when the new season starts. At some point, the fountain of youth is going to dry up for him. And Belichick knows it's better to be early with a quarterback than late. Don't be surprised if we hear West Virginia's Will Grier, Missouri's Drew Lock, or NC State's Ryan Finley as one of New England's picks on Friday.

There are also needs aplenty on defense, from the line to the defensive backfield. The Pats need another edge rusher to replace Trey Flowers, and could use some more youth in their safety corps.

Of course, there are 31 other teams also looking to get better this weekend, and there are rumblings that a divisional rival may be working out a pretty big trade ahead of the second round. The Miami Dolphins are reportedly chatting with the Arizona Cardinals about a deal for quarterback Josh Rosen, involving the No. 48 overall pick. They are reportedly close to a deal, according to Pro Football Talk,so that'll be something to monitor as we get to the middle of the second round.

Whatever happens throughout the night involving the New England Patriots, we'll bring it to you as it comes!
