McCourty Trying To Remain Confident

FOXBORO (CBS) - New England Patriots cornerback Devin McCourty is feeling his second year woes.

Last season teams kind of stayed away from the first year Pro Bowl corner.  This season, that has not been the case.  McCourty has been picked on and he knows Buffalo is going to do the same.

"Buffalo spreads the ball around, you talk about [David] Nelson, [Steve] Johnson, and also Donald Jones is playing well," said McCourty. "Even with Roscoe Parrish down, they have a bunch of capable wide receives. It doesn't get any easier, week by week."

As for having opposing quarterbacks seeing a target on his back due to his recent struggles, that is nothing new for McCourty.

"That's part of the job. I felt like that last year too," he said.

Gresh & Zo Whiteboard: The Aggressive Bills Defense

Earlier in the week, head coach Bill Belichick said McCourty has been one of the Patriots best players this season. While the corner likes the kind words, he knows it will take more to live up to them.

"There is always room for improvement," said McCourty, who noted confidence is a very imporant part of his game. "It is key. When you play the cornerback position, you're going against great receivers and great quarterbacks in this league. Once you lose confidence it can kind of all go back from there."

The Pats defense after two games has allowed 381 yards per game.  Devin thinks as the year goes on, the Pats D will get better.

"There's a bunch of minor [errors] that we've made," he said, noting the team still must address them before they become major problems. "We have to continue to fix them."
