Kraft Remains Mum On Health Of Rob Gronkowski

BOSTON (CBS) - New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft didn't have much of a comment on tight end Rob Gronkowski's offseason of surgeries when asked about it Monday afternoon.

Gronkowski, who held a football camp over the weekend, has his left arm in a cast after undergoing a fourth forearm surgery last month, and is facing back surgery next month.

"I think Rob performed pretty well on Saturday at his camp," Kraft said at the William E. Russell Elementary School in Dorchester. "He came down to Newtown with us (last month) and performed pretty well. I think he spoke about it (on Saturday), so I think he's probably a more intelligent spokesperson on his condition than I am."

Gronkowski threw a few short passes to kids at his clinic on Saturday -- letting them then show off their own version of the Gronkowski spike -- but is not expected to be ready for training camp when it begins in July. Reporters were instructed not to ask him about his health at Saturday's camp, and Gronk did his best to avoid the subject.

"It's blast being with kids; maybe in the future I'll be out there running around," Gronkowski said at his clinic in Peabody. "As of right now I can just give them advice. They're coming up to me asking questions, taking pictures and having a blast that way."

Kraft surprised students and faculty at the Dorchester school at a special ceremony that awarded them $30,000 grant and party to celebrate their national award from the Find Your Balance Challenge.

"I like hanging with champions," Kraft told the kids at the assembly. "You won an award that everyone competed in throughout the country, and you're number-one. That's what the Patriots are going to try to be this year."

Kraft matched the $30,000 award, which will help the school build a working kitchen.
