Patriots Hand Out Thanksgiving-In-A-Basket In Roxbury
ROXBURY (CBS) - In a yearly tradition, the New England Patriots made sure over 200 families in need will have a delicious Thanksgiving meal.
As Turkey Day approaches, the Patriots handed out Thanksgiving baskets at the Morgan Memorial Goodwill Headquarters in Roxbury on Tuesday. Owner Robert Kraft and Patriots players past and present gave out the baskets, filled with turkeys and Thanksgiving fixings, to 220 families in need.
WBZ-TV's Steve Burton spoke with tight end Rob Gronkowski about what Thanksgiving means to him. "I'm just thankful for everything we have in our life," Gronk said. "We're blessed and it's great to be here on Tuesday and hand out turkeys to people who are in need."
Gronk said the basket was so heavy that he was getting in a good workout as well. "We got like a 25-pound turkey here, everything, biscuit, jelly, a pie," he said.
This is the 20th anniversary of Thanksgiving-In-A-Basket, which began the year Robert Kraft purchased the New England Patriots.
"To have the privilege of being able to do this since the first year we bought the team and this is a great tradition here," Kraft said. "We're so happy to be able to support this."
The Patriots got plenty of help putting the baskets together. Stop & Shop donated cranberry sauce, gravy, peas, green beans, corn, stuffing, potatoes, quick breads, oranges and pies, Willow Tree Farms donated 220 turkeys, and Sterilite Corporation donated 220 baskets.
