Patriots' Edelman Removed From PUP List

BOSTON (CBS) - New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman was removed from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list on Thursday and practiced for the first time this Training Camp.

"It felt good," Edelman said after practice. "It's always exciting to get back out there with the teammates and start a new year and get on the field. It was exciting.

"I've got a long way to go and I'm excited the process has started," he said. "Right now I'm ultimately focused on just trying to get out here and catch up with the train. The train's been moving."

The fifth-year receiver was shelved at the beginning of camp after undergoing offseason foot surgery. He played in nine games last season, catching 21 passes for 235 yards and a career-high three touchdowns. He also returned 17 punts, returning one for a touchdown, and three kickoffs last season.

With so much turnover in the Patriots receiving corps, Edelman figures to be an important part to the New England offense. He'll be in competition with rookies Aaron Dobson and Josh Boyce and veteran receiver Michael Jenkins on the Patriots depth chart behind number-one receiver Danny Amendola, so it will be important for him to make up for lost time as camp progresses.

Edelman, who signed a one-year deal in the offseason, has 69 receptions on 108 targets in 48 career games, scoring four touchdowns. He has 72 career punt returns, taking three of them back for touchdowns.
