Patriots Draft WR Aaron Dobson Of Marshall 59th Overall In 2013 NFL Draft
BOSTON (CBS) - The New England Patriots addressed a key offensive need with the 59th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft on Friday night, potentially given quarterback Tom Brady another weapon in the process.
With their second pick of the evening the Patriots selected wide receiver Aaron Dobson out of Marshall, who says he's prepared to hit the ground running in a complex New England offense.
"I think I'm ready," Dobson said in a conference call shortly after being drafted. "It's definitely something that I've been getting prepared for just going through this whole process, doing what everyone tells me with the pressure of going into the league. I'm just going in focused and ready to start my new life with the Patriots and my new life in the NFL."
Dobson is especially excited at the prospect of catching passes from Brady.
"That right there, you can't beat that," he said. "Brady is the best quarterback in the league. It's amazing because I've been watching him for so long and now that I get the chance to go play with him, it's a blessing."
Scouts say Dobson, who stands at 6-2, 210 pounds, is a solid route-runner with good hands. He can jump in traffic, which allows him to make difficult catches look easy (take a look at this one-handed grab from last season). He will give Brady an outside target -- something the Patriots have lacked in recent years.

Dobson finished with a career-high 57 receptions for 679 yards and three touchdowns in 2012. He ended his Marshall career with 165 receptions for 2,398 yards and 24 touchdowns over 47 games. His 24 touchdowns are tied with Patriots receiving great Troy Brown for fourth in the school's all-time record book.
