New Trailer, Photos From Boston Marathon Bombing Movie 'Patriots Day'
BOSTON (CBS) -- A new trailer has been released for Patriots Day, the upcoming Mark Wahlberg movie about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings.
This trailer shows the moment the bombs exploded, as well as the manhunt for the bombers.
Wahlberg plays Boston Police Sgt. Tommy Saunders, a composite character based on several people involved in the response to the bombings.
Also starring in the film and featured in the trailer are Michelle Monaghan as nurse Carol Saunders, John Goodman as Police Commissioner Ed Davis, Kevin Bacon as FBI Special Agent Richard DesLauriers, and J.K. Simmons as Watertown Police Sgt. Jeffrey Pugliese.
The trailer also includes a scene featuring "Supergirl" star Melissa Benoist as marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev's wife, Katherine Russell.
Filmmakers shot scenes for the film in and around Boston for months this year, filming scenes at the 2016 Boston Marathon, building a mock-up of the marathon finish line and Boylston Street at a Weymouth air base, and even re-creating Red Sox slugger David Ortiz's famous "This is our f---ing city" speech for use in the film.
Crews were not allowed to film in several places; Watertown officials declined the producers' proposal to film in town, as did the administration at UMass-Dartmouth.
The first trailer for the film was released last month.
The movie will be released in theaters in Boston, New York, and Los Angeles on December 21, and will have a nationwide opening January 13.
Patriots Day is being produced by WBZ-TV's sister company CBS Films.
