Brady Solid In Preseason Debut
BOSTON (CBS) - It was only the first game of the preseason, but Patriots quarterback Tom Brady looked like he was in mid-season form Friday night in Philadelphia.
Brady played two offensive series in New England's 31-22 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, going 7-for-8 for 65 yards and a touchdown.
After the Patriots ran the ball six times on their first possession, Brady began the second offensive series by nearly getting sacked. He threw the ball away for an incomplete pass, which ended up being the only time he didn't hit a receiver on the night.
Brady completed four passes to rookie receiver Kenbrell Thompkins for 23 yards, hit rookie Aaron Dobson for once for 23 yards, and hit Danny Amendola for six yards on his first completion of the evening.
Brady capped his night off with a nice 13-yard touchdown to running back Shane Vereen in the back of the end zone to put the Patriots on top 14-7 in the first quarter.
"I was looking and trying to figure out the best thing to do because I knew the coverage," Brady said of the touchdown. "It was a great catch to get his feet down in a tight area. Shane's been doing that; he's really come on and continued to improve, so it was great to see him make that play."
Brady played a total of 16 snaps before sitting down for second-string quarterback Ryan Mallett.
While he looked like Tom Brady in his first time out there, he gave the company answer about it only being the preseason -- and there is always room for improvement.
"We have a long way to go," he said, "but it was fun to get out there and play our first game in seven months."
