Brady: Have To Get Ball In End Zone
FOXBORO (CBS) – For the second week in a row, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots are asking themselves what went wrong.
"Everyone hates losing; it sucks," the Patriots quarterback once again, this time after a 24-20 loss at the hands of the New York Giants.
Brady had the same sentiment last Sunday after a 25-17 loss to the Steelers. But after watching a late-fourth quarter comeback turn into a Giants fourth quarter comeback, the Patriots are losers of two straight games for the first time since 2009.
"You put a lot into each week and it sucks when you lose, but no one feels sorry for you," said Brady. "We're going to come back and fight just as hard next week. Hopefully the outcome is a little better."
Highs & Lows: Another Ugly Loss
The loss is Brady's first regular season defeat at home since November 2006, snapping a 31-game home winning streak.
"We're not playing the way we're capable of playing. (We have to) try to figure out the reason why," said Brady, who threw two interceptions and fumbled once against the Giants. "We keep battling out there. There is a lot of fight in the guys. I think that's one thing we take away. Last week the going got tough and we got going; same thing in Dallas, same this week. There were a lot of guys that played hard and played until the end. We learn every week. It just didn't finish the way we hoped it would today."
"It's just a matter of us executing better," said Brady. "I'll have to see the tape. It's one thing here, one thing there; it keeps us out of the end zone. It's tough day obviously to lose in a game that we felt we had a good plan, a good week of practice. They played a little better than we did."
While Brady led the team down the field and gave New England a late 20-17 lead, he admits there were missed opportunities earlier on. Brady threw a pick to start the second quarter, ending a possible scoring drive at the New York 29. He missed an open Aaron Hernandez in the end zone with seven seconds left in the first half, which was followed by a missed Stephen Gostkowski field goal.
Brady After Loss To Giants
"We have to get the ball in the end zone when we get down close. We settle for field goals and that sort of thing. It's tough to come out with no points," he said. "The first half, we played a very poor first half. But we battled back, battled through some tough adversity there and put ourselves in a position. They made some great plays."
"They were a little bit better than we were today. We'll try and come out tomorrow, figure out the problems, try and correct them," said Brady. "Then go out and have a good week and get ready for the Jets. That's obviously another tough one next week."
The Patriots defense was held to 20 points or fewer for the third straight game, the first time that has happened since the 2003 season.
