Patriots Blog: Welker Happy He Won't Be On 'Revis Island'

BOSTON (CBS) -  Patriots receivers are catching a huge break against the Jets on Sunday.

New York's all-pro corner back Darrelle Revis is sidelined for the season with a knee injury, so no Patriot will find themselves stranded on "Revis Island" come Sunday.

Wes Welker knows how tough it is to play against Revis, and he's relieved that the all-pro corner will not be out there on the field.

Welker spoke to the media on Friday and he also said that he doesn't expect to see the Jets number-two corner Antonio Cromartie either.  He described Cromartie as a "different player" and said they really haven't played against each other too much.

"Very rarely have we matched up in the past," said Welker. "Maybe a few plays here and there. But, for the most part, I think we're different type of players. He's a bigger guy, a longer guy, a faster guy. But he does a good job, good ball skills and all those different things. You've got to just run good routes, get open, and try to make plays."

While Welker said you never want to see anyone get hurt, he certainly isn't going to miss Revis.

"Of course," he said. "I mean, he's a great player. But they've got guys that are stepping up and doing a great job for them. And you've got to make sure you're on top of everything and running good routes, and doing what you need to do to get open."

Getting open has not been an issue for Welker so far this season. He's shooting for his fifth-straight 100-yard game on Sunday.
