Patriots Blog: Quarter By Quarter Highs & Lows

FOXBORO (CBS) -- Some highs and lows from the third quarter.

The Highs:

The Pats come up with a big play again.  Brandon Spikes with an interception at the 2 yard line and the Jets have a long drive and get nothing.  The Pats got the ball back and rewarded the defense with a score. 8 plays 93 yards and Wes Welker with an 18 yard touchdown catch.  The Pats are putting on a clinic.

The Jets got the ball and Devin McCourty with a big interception.  Pats playing extremely well on both sides of the ball.  Pats end the quarter at the Jet one yard line.

The Lows:

The Jets have started the second half on the move. Bad tackling by McCourty and New York is running the ball.  They were able to convert on a 4th and 1.

Pats 31 to Jets 3
HIGHS AND LOWS FROM THE SECOND QUARTER
The Highs:

The Pats defense got the job done.  They held on 3rd down and the Jets only got a field goal out of a long drive.  Bend don't break in full effect.  The Pats scored again.  This time Danny Woodhead had the big play. A 35 yard passing play and Brandon Tate finished with a 4 yard touchdown catch.  That was Tom Brady's 250th touchdown of his career.

Right after the Pats scored the defense forced the Jets into a 4 play drive and punt.  Great job.

The defense came right back after and stumped the Jets.  The Pats offense got nothing and the defense kept them on stride and shut the Jets down and got them back the ball.

Jets tried to score at the end of the half and they got nothing.  Pats defense playing well.

The Lows:

The Jets started this quarter on the move and they are eating up yards on the ground.  They also caught the Pats in a change.  The Patriots have started this quarter on a down note.

Pats offense did not convert on a 3 and 1.  One of the first lows by the offense.  It was the first time they punted today.

Another 3 and out by the Pats offense.  This time Brady was sacked 2 times on this drive.

24 to 3 Pats at the half

HIGHS AND LOWS FROM FIRST QUARTER

The Highs:

The Pats got the ball first and marched down the field.  Good running plays by Ben Jarvus Green Ellis and Danny Woodhead.  The drive stalled at the Jets 23 but Shayne Graham kicked a 41 yarder through a stiff wind.  Good sign right there.

Nervous moments but the Pats defense held Mark Sanchez and the Jets.  The Jets tried for a 53 yard field goal and missed.

Pats got the ball on their second possession and scored.  They used a great 3rd down play, Brady to Wes Welker to keep the drive alive.  They got a pass interference call to go their way and ran it in from the one.

Pats defense gets the Jets to go 3 and out on their second possession.

Pats again get on the board.  They went for it on third down and 25 yards later, it was a touchdown.  Deion Branch was the recipient.

The Lows:

On that first drive, Deion Branch missed a catch that would have been a first down.  It was a tough catch but he's made it before and that halted the drive.

Tomlinson seems to be the primary guy on the Jets first drive.  He was open a couple of times on the opening drive and hurt the Pats

Tom got sacked for 12 yards on the first play of his 3rd drive.  The Pats got caught with that blitz.  Have to be careful...
17 to 0 Pats after one

THOUGHTS BEFORE THE GAME
The key match-up in this game is the Pats stopping Jets tight end Justin Keller.  He routinely beats the Patriots and in week one, he finished with 115 yards and one touchdown, and all of it was clutch.
If the Pats want to slow down the Jets, they have to start with Justin Keller.

Randy Moss with the Patriots this season: 3-1. Randy Moss with the Vikings and Titans this season: 1-6. This can't be how he envisioned his contract year unfolding, and he only has himself to blame.  This is called career killing.  He wanted a big deal and he'll be lucky to sign for NFL minimum wage.

One name to keep an eye on Monday night for the Patriots: rookie linebacker Dane Fletcher. He was effective as a spy against Ravens running back Ray Rice early in the season, and running back LaDainian Tomlinson (team-high 45 receptions) and the check-down pass have been a big part of the Jets' attack.

Bill Belichick's message to the Patriots after their last victory, as captured by Patriots All-Access cameras: "Football season starts on Thanksgiving. That's really when it starts. Think about what our opportunity is, because it's a damn good one. But it's just an opportunity. There is a lot of football left to be played, and we'll find out who the real champions are in the next five weeks."

This is what he was talking about.
