Patriots Blog: Woodhead Limited At Pats Practice

FOXBORO (CBS) - There was a new player on the practice field for the Patriots today. He was wearing number 53. There was speculation that it was linebacker Marques Murrell. Murrell was with the Pats during training camp and that was the number he wore. Of all the players injured, Mike Wright is the one that is likely to be placed on IR. Word is his concussion is not getting any better.

Meanwhile, running back Danny Woodhead (head), center Dan Koppen (unknown) and guard Dan Connolly (concussion) wore red, non-contact jerseys at practice. Also, inside linebacker Brandon Spikes was back on the practice field for the first time following his NFL-imposed four-game suspension.

SPIKES RETURNS

First open locker room since the Patriots won on Sunday and made the transition into their playoff mode.

It was good to see Danny Woodhead and Brandon Spikes there.

Woodhead left Sunday's game with a head injury. I spoke to him briefly and he said he needed to get straight to the meetings. I am no doctor but he looked okay.

Spikes poked his head in the locker room and then headed to defensive meetings. The linebacker is returning from a 4-game suspension. He did not speak to reporters.

ELLISON SIGNED

The Pats have added another player to the 53 man roster. The team has been depleted at defensive line and they have signed lineman Atiyyah Ellison. The 29-year-old was a third round selection of the Panthers in the 2005 draft.

Ellison was one of 4 defensive lineman the Pats had come in on Monday for a workout.

The Patriots had an open roster spot after placing rookie defensive end Brandon Deaderick on the reserve/suspended list Monday.
