Patriots Blog: Fighting For Spots
BOSTON (CBS) - So maybe this game doesn't mean a whole lot but the Patriots should end with a bang.
And it will have plenty of meaning for a few guys fighting for a job.
Can Julian Edelman take over all the returning duties and take the job from Brandon Tate? Julian is a better receiver and this preseason, has been better in the return game. Tonight he should solidify this spot. Special teams coach Scott O'Brien could be leaning Julian's way.
And now that James Sanders is gone, who are the Pats safeties? I think Brandon Meriweather and Patrick Chung are the starters, but you can flip a coin as to where the Pats go from there. James Ihedigbo is a solid special teamer and Bill loves that. Sergio Brown has been given every chance to rock and maybe his time is now.

If the Pats do play Tom Brady, I want them to throw the ball long and hit the outside receivers. They need to get that deep game going. Deion Branch has not caught anything this preseason and Taylor Price has yet to be consistent. It would be nice to see something from either of them this game.

Final cuts come Saturday, when the Patriots have to trim the roster to 53. Some guys will be playing for those final spots tonight.
