Patriots Blog: Favre Speaks About Sunday

FOXBORO (CBS) - Whether or not you think Brett Favre is going to play on Sunday, you know he's not going let this ankle injury go without some drama. Favre has two fractures in his ankle and right now he is in a walking boot.

"I'm willing to give it a try," Favre said of attempting to play.

The 41-year-old has played in 291 consecutive games and would love to keep that streak going but the Vikings need to have their best out on the field this Sunday. They are in a desperate situation. Putting Favre out there would not be there best. That's a good thing for the Pats.

"I'm very proud of the streak, but it probably should have ended a long time ago," Favre said, adding: "Whether it ends this week or it ends at the end of the year, it ends, and I will always be proud of it."

GETTING READY TO SEE MOSS

With the Minnesota Vikings coming to town, Randy Moss was a topic of conversation in the Patriots locker room. This will be weird week of practice for the guys because they have to take what they know about Randy and apply it. Plus take what Randy knows about them and change.

"I'm sure there's going to be a lot of hype around it, just because he was in this locker room just a few weeks ago," said cornerback Kyle Arrington, who figures to be lining up across from Moss at times. "We all love Randy to death. A lot of us wish he was still here, but we understand the business side of it and it was his decision to make."

I got a chance to see Moss in training camp. He went up against most of these corners and beat them. It will be a tall order for them to stop him, if he's out there looking for revenge.

"He's a great player. I'm lucky I don't have to defend him," Brady said during his Wednesday news conference in the team's locker room. "I'm sure he'll want to come out and have a great game against us."

CHILDRESS SOFTENS STANCE

Earlier in the week, there were reports that Brad Childress called Bill Belichick "one of the all-time great signal stealers."  He was referring to a beatdown the Vikings took at the hands of the Patriots in 2006.

Well, in a phone press conference Wednesday, Childress was asked to explain what he meant and he softened his stance.

"I said what I said. That's in the past. We all try to get any tips we can get or glean, stand on the sidelines, and I'm sure it's done throughout the league. We do it as well. I'll just let those stand," Childress said.

Now Childress has made a habit of poking at Belichick.

In 2008, he related Belichick's effort to get the Vikings to leave released tight end Garrett Mills alone so the Pats could sign him to their practice squad.

The Vikings signed him anyway, the Patriots signed a Vikings linebacker and Childress told the media about the machinations of the conversations.

In 2009, the Vikings maneuvered to draft Percy Harvin and, after getting him, Childress noted that the Patriots were interested in Harvin as well. Childress called it a game of cat and mouse. The Vikings, in Childress' eyes, were the cat.

"I have a great deal of respect for Coach Belichick and the way he's formulated that program in the last 10 years. I've told him so," said Childress. "He has a mentally tough team. They are great competitors and play the way I hope one of my teams plays."

MOSS RETURN
With Randy Moss coming back to town, he was a topic of conversation in the Patriots locker room.  This will be a weird week of practice for the guys becauise they have to take what they know about Randy and apply it.  Plus take what Randy knows about them and change.

CHUNG OK?

Looks like Patrick Chung may have dodged a serious injury.  Don't know the official status on his knee but he was walking through the locker room Wednesday, without the aid of crutches and he did not appear to have a limp. Chung was knocked out of Sunday's game against the Chargers.  He could still miss some time but it doesn't look like it will be a long-term situation.

As far as Brett Favre goes, Brad Childress said today he would not be at practice.  Favre has two fractures in his ankle and is using a walking boot.  He has not been ruled out though for the game on the Sunday.

POWER RANKINGS

Here are your NFL power rankings.  This week I took them from Sportsbook.com:

1.  Jets

2.  Steelers

3   Patriots

4.  Colts

5.  Ravens

6.  Titans

7.  Falcons

8.  Giants

9.  Texans

10. Chiefs

11. Eagles

12. Packers

13. Saints

14. Redskins

15. Dolphins

16. Buccaneers

17. Seahawks

18. Vikings

19. Chargers

20. Raiders

21. Rams

22. Bears

23. Browns

24. Lions

25. Cowboys

26. Broncos

27. Bengals

28. Jaguars

29. 49ers

30. Cardinals

31. Panthers

32. Bills

Here are my problems with their list.  I think the Giants are the best team in the NFC, so they have to go ahead of the Falcons.  I also think the G-Men are better than the Titans.  The Texans may be a bit overrated and the Vikings are not a good team, even with all their pro bowl parts.  Right now they are dysfunctional.  They should not be that high.
