-- Coach Belichick just wrapped up his first meeting with the media, and started it in typical Patriots' fashion.
"We're excited to get out on the field here today after the spring," said Bill. "We have a long way to go. We'll take it one meeting, one day at a time, and see where that takes us."
He also talked about veteran offensive lineman Brian Waters. The Pro Bowler signed a two-year deal with New England last year but has not reported to camp.
While it could be a contract squabble, it's more likely the 12-year vet doesn't want to come to camp. He didn't sign until the end of camp last year, and probably liked all the time off.
Coach isn't saying anything on the topic. When asked if he thought Waters was going to retire, Belichick said "not sure; ask him."

On the Wes Welker contract situation
"It's like that we go through that situation with eery player. Some players we reach an agreement with some players we don't."
On tight end Visanthe Shiancoe
"We'll just have to see how it all plays out. I think Shiancoe's a good football player; he's had a good career, he's been productive in two different organizations with several different quarterbacks."
When asked about cutting Joseph Addai on Wednesday, Belichick didn't offer much.
'It didn't work out," he said.

-- This is how I know times have changed....
The Patriots gave some guidelines to training camp, which included them going over media tweeting. Awesome!!!
Guess they didn't realize Twitter was broken this morning...
DAY 1 Observations
Here are some of the observations from day one of training camp.
Even though teams are not allowed to go full contact on the first 2 days of training camp, the Pats went as close to full speed as possible. The team was in shells and they let it all hang out on 7 on 7 drills and then again on 11 on 11 drills.
Number 72 on the Patriots for as long as I have known them, has been Matt Light. Light is retired and now Robert Gallery wears his number. Gallery has long hair spilling out of his helmet, so it gets a double take at first glance. Today Gallery was on the second team at right guard. The first team had Dan Koppen at center, Ryan Wendell at left guard and Dan Connolly at right guard.
Chandler Jones is number 95 and he is a huge man. Watching him out there on the field, there's no wonder the Pats drafted him. He's athletic and strong. Talking to him, he comes off very bright. He lined up in drills and his size and strength was very evident.
