Patriots Acquire Aqib Talib In Trade With Buccaneers
BOSTON (CBS) -- The trade deadline was not a silent one for the Patriots, who acquired Tampa Bay cornerback Aqib Talib on Thursday.
The Patriots sent a fourth-round pick in 2013 to Tampa Bay in the deal, with the Buccaneers sending their seventh-round pick to the Patriots along with Talib.
The Buccaneers announced the trade shortly after the 4 p.m. deadline.
Talib, 26, was a first-round draft pick (20th overall) by the Bucs in 2008. He has 18 interceptions, three returned for touchdowns, in 58 career games.
Off the field though, he's had a number of incidents. Most recently, he was suspended four games in October for failing a drug test, though he said it was because he took Aderall. His suspension was due to end after this weekend's game, but with the Patriots on a bye week, he will likely have to sit out one more game.
In March 2011, he surrendered to police in Texas after a warrant was issued for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly firing a gun at his sister's boyfriend during a fight. Those charges were eventually dropped, and he was not punished by the NFL due to the lockout. In 2009 he was arrested for allegedly beating a taxi driver, which drew a one-game suspension from the NFL.
