Patrick, Lawmakers Take Small Pay Cut
BOSTON (CBS/AP) – Lawmakers in Massachusetts are taking a small pay cut and that includes Gov. Deval Patrick.
Patrick ordered the 0.5 percent cut Monday. It will go into effect Wednesday.
State senators and representatives currently make a base salary of $61,440. They'll lose about $307.
Patrick has been paid $140,535 a year. He faces a $700 pay cut.
WBZ-TV's Karen Anderson reports.
This is the first pay cut for legislators since 1998, when the governor was given the authority to adjust their salaries.
That's when voters approved a constitutional amendment that links legislative pay to median household income of the last two years. That income level dropped by 0.5 percent.
