Patrice Bergeron Leaves Game Due To Apparent Injury
BOSTON (CBS) -- The city of Boston was buzzing all day due to the Bruins' acquisition of future Hall of Famer Jaromir Jagr, but that excitement was quickly tempered on Tuesday night during the team's game against the Ottawa Senators.
With the Bruins leading 2-1 nearly eight minutes into the second period, Bruins alternate captain Patrice Bergeron skated to the bench, clearly in pain. He headed straight down the tunnel to the dressing room, and at the end of the period, the team announced Bergeron would not return to the game.
The team did not say what injury Bergeron suffered, and it was unclear what exactly happened to Bergeron prior to his departure from the game.
Bergeron, 27, has played in all 35 Bruins games this season, leading the team with 31 points (10-21-31). He's also leading the NHL with a 61.1 percent success rate on the faceoff dot (among centers with at least 300 draws). He was 7-for-9 on faceoffs in Tuesday night's game, when he was also a plus-1.
Bruins coach Claude Julien did not provide any update on Bergeron after the game.
