Parking 'Guru': Boston On-Street Parking Is Too Cheap
BOSTON (CBS) --- A renowned "parking-guru" says off-street parking costs too much and on-street parking is unavailable because it's too cheap in Boston and that would all change by staggering the price. The idea is modeled off of what is being done in San Francisco.
"Adjust prices every six weeks automatically based on the occupancy of the street and it hasn't gone above $6 an hour," Donald Shoup of UCLA said. "You see open spaces everywhere."

Parking 'Guru' Says Boston Doesn't Charge Enough To Park
Shoup is the key-note speaker at the day-long conference on the subject of parking, co-sponsored by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council.
Currently a meter in Boston, is $1.25 per-hour. Shoop says that's way too low for the Back Bay.
The conference is focused on the costs and challenges not just in Boston, but in the suburbs as well, where it's becoming an issue that affects everything from housing to economic development.
