Meter Revenue Up, Tickets Down Since Boston Parking App Released
BOSTON (CBS) -- The kingdom of quarters has been overthrown by a smartphone app.
Parking meter revenue is up by more than $1 million since the city introduced the Park Boston app in January of 2015.
The Boston Globe reports that, since the app was introduced, police have written ten-percent fewer tickets for expired meters.
The paper says the increase in meter revenue and the loss of revenue from tickets may pretty much cancel each other out.
The app allows drivers to pay for meters using their smartphones, and even add time to the meters remotely. They can also pay with their credit cards--so no more fishing through your pocket for quarters.
Park Boston can be used at 8,000 parking spaces around the city.
