Boston Rally Remembers Victims Of Paris Attacks, Shows Solidarity

BOSTON (CBS/AP) — A crowd of hundreds gathered in Boston Sunday to remember the victims of the deadly attacks in Paris and to show solidarity with France.

The French consulate in Boston invited people to a rally at Boston Common at noon.

"When I saw the news I was alone, so coming here makes me feel we are not alone and that's great," mourner Mary Tricoli said.

The consul general of France in Boston, Valery Freland, also attended, along with Gov. Charlie Baker and Boston Mayor Marty Walsh.

"We stand with France and with Paris. There is no question about that.  We shared too much history for it to be any other way and I can promise you we stand with you," Governor Charlie Baker said.

The attacks on Friday left 129 people dead and more than 350 wounded.

On the Common, there was a strong police presence as the crowd paused for a moment of silence.

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston held a Mass for the victims late Sunday morning at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston.

The rector also read a message from Cardinal Sean O'Malley which said, in part: "May those who would strike out against others turn their hearts and minds to the peaceful resolution of disputes and embrace respect for the dignity and sanctity of the lives of all people."
