Parents Arrive In New Zealand To Be With BU Student Critically Hurt In Crash
BOSTON (CBS) - The parents of a Boston University student from Salisbury who was seriously injured in a crash have arrived in New Zealand to be with their ailing daughter.
Meg Theriault, 21, is in critical condition at Waikato Hospital's intensive care unit.
"We're here now and we're supporting our daughter for as long as it takes," Todd and Deb Theriault, Meg's parents, said in a statement. "She is a fit and stubborn young woman and we know she is getting the best care."
Theriault, a business management student at BU, suffered a serious head injury, a broken right arm and grazing to her body in a crash in New Zealand last week.
"We'd also like to thank everyone at the scene. I understand there were people there who did all they could to help Meg and the others in the accident. The emergency services people and the police did an outstanding job given the nature of the accident," Todd and Deb Theriault said in the statement.
Three students, Daniela Lekhno, Roch Jauberty, and Austin Brashears, were killed in the crash. Five others, including Theriault, were injured.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with those families who have lost loved ones in the accident," Todd and Deb Theriault said in the statement. "We know what they are going through and what it's like to receive such devastating news from the other side of the world."
A vigil for the students was held at a BU campus plaza on Saturday night.
