Paramedics Shock Braintree Man Back To Life Four Times
BRAINTREE (CBS) - If you look up the definition of the word "determination" you might find the picture of Bob Burnell of Braintree, along with the pictures of two paramedics from Fallon Ambulance.
On April 2, Bob suffered a heart attack, and called 911. When the paramedics arrived, they got Bob into the ambulance, but then his heart quit. They used a defibrillation unit, shocking his heart back to life, but Bob's heart kept stopping.
"They shocked me 14 times!" says Bob, who was told he died four times on the way to South Shore Hospital. "I think they're amazing, they saved my life."
Matt Cohen of Fallon Ambulance was one of the paramedics. "That's our job to try and save lives," says a humble Cohen who also credits Burnell. "He kept trying, he wasn't giving up, so we weren't going to give up."
"We had to change the batteries a couple times but he kept fighting," says Cohen. "As long as he goes, we go."
Burnell was stabilized at South Shore Hospital, and then med-flighted to Boston Medical Center, where a stint was placed in one of his coronary arteries. That should help prevent another heart attack.
