Pair Arrested After Police Pursuit In Concord Jewelry Theft

CONCORD (CBS) -- A Lynnfield man and Medford woman allegedly stole racks of jewelry from a store before they were arrested early Friday morning following a police pursuit, officials said.

Police responded to an alarm at about 4 a.m. for Artinian Jewelers on Main Street in Concord, where a car was seen speeding away.

"They smashed through the front door, they smashed a display counter and took a large amount of jewelry from the building," said Concord Police Chief Joseph O'Connor

Officers found the car and said they were led on a three-mile chase around town that ended on Baker Avenue.

Tara Felts, 30, was quickly arrested by police, but the driver ran off, according to officials. Clifton Pinion, a 37-year-old homeless man, was found hiding a short distance away hiding in the thicket by a K-9 officer, police said. He had to be treated for a dog bite.

Inside the car, Concord police said they could see jewelry on the seats in plain view.

Both are charged with breaking and entering, receiving stolen property and malicious destruction of property. Pinion is also facing charges of resisting arrest, failing to stop for police, operating with a suspended license, reckless operation and other traffic offenses.

It is unclear if this case is related to other similar crimes in the State, but O'Connor said, "We're going to continue our investigation, see if they may be connected to any other crimes we may have had."
