P.K. Subban's Father Buys 'Canadien Dive Team' T-Shirt In Boston
BOSTON (CBS) -- P.K. Subban was a villain in the eyes of Bruins fans long before his game-winner on Thursday night, and fans let him know it whenever he touches the puck in the TD Garden.
And if voicing their opinions doesn't get the point across, there are plenty of other ways to let it show. Outside the Garden, there are numerous t-shirts being sold on the streets poking fun at the Montreal defenseman.
But as much as Boston fans dislike Subban, you have to give his father some credit for having a good sense of humor.
As he and his family were heading into the TD Garden for Thursday's Game 1 between the Bruins and Canadiens, Karl Subban saw the "Canadien Dive Team" t-shirts being sold outside. It's no secret that the Habs have a knack for hitting the ice as they try to draw penalties. Subban is offender No. 1 among Bruins' fans, and fittingly, his No. 76 graces the back of the shirt.
When Karl saw the shirt mocking his son, he didn't get upset. Instead he had a nice laugh, and picked one up.
"I saw this shirt and I looked closely. I saw '76' and I read it and I saw what it said. My wife laughed. My son Malcolm is here and he laughed, too," the elder Subban told the Montreal Gazette.
"So I said 'I better buy one.' I know the fans here are having fun. And I want to have some fun with it, too," said Subban. "Really that's all it's about. It's about having fun."
The Subbans have a representative on both sides in the historic rivalry, with P.K.'s younger brother Malcolm a goaltender for the Providence Bruins. He was drafted 24th overall by Boston in 2012.
Malcolm's Providence Bruins have a deciding Game 5 on Saturday night in the AHL playoffs, and maybe his father will let him borrow the shirt. It looks like it brought a little luck to P.K.'s side on Thursday, given his two goals in Montreal's 4-3 double-overtime winner.
