Oxford Golf Cart Burned By Vandals Leaves $25,000 In Damage
OXFORD (CBS) - A country club is offering a reward hoping to find the vandals who took a golf cart for a joyride and then set it on fire causing about $25,000 in damage.
Ken Duquette, the general manager of Pine Ridge Country Club in North Oxford said someone lifted the 300-pound cart over a chain link fence, started it up and then drove it around at about 4 a.m. Thursday.
Duquette said the vandals eventually tipped the cart on its side on the green at the third hole, emptied the gas and oil out of it and set it on fire.
The fire destroyed the $5,000 cart. It will cost about $20,000 to the repair the area of the thirteenth green that was scorched.
"Roughly about an 18-by-18 square foot area had to be cut out and now we have to bring in new turf to be put in there and almost like piecemeal it in and it's going to take quite a while to grow back," he told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 Friday.
"These people who did this were on foot, they have to be fairly local and they had to know the layout of the golf course," Duquette said. "They knew exactly where to go."
Police are also looking into the vandalism.
"We want a conviction out of this," Duquette told WBZ-TV. He would not reveal the amount of the reward.
