Owners Of Tanker That Hit NH-Maine Bridge Seeks $2.4 Million Refund From States
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) — The owners of a tanker that struck a bridge connecting New Hampshire and Maine are seeking a $2.4 million refund from the two states for the bond posted to release the vessel after the collision.
In federal court documents, the owners of the oil tanker say the two states are guilty of negligence and should also pay for the tanker owners' legal costs.
The Portsmouth Herald reports that the owners say they are entitled to "set off" costs for damage to the tanker, against costs from damage to the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge between Portsmouth and Kittery, Maine, on April 1.
The states say the tanker's crew didn't secure the vessel properly, causing it to drift. The states are seeking reimbursement for costs associated with repairing the bridge.
