Owner Devastated After Beloved Dog Dies At Weymouth Day Care

WEYMOUTH (CBS) – A Hull man is devastated after his dog died at a Weymouth day care facility.

Guy Reynolds had left his valuable purebred English bulldog Cooper at Land of Pawz last Thursday.

It was the dog's sixth birthday and he didn't want to leave him home alone.

But then he got a call later saying his dog had died, apparently of heat exhaustion.

"It's been a tough couple of days here filling that void. I'm never going to get my dog back and he was a special dog. He was just a great dog," he told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 Tuesday.

"It's heart-wrenching to think I'm in this spot. (He was) six years old, healthy dog, never had a heart issue, never had a problem."

Reynolds feels Land of Pawz didn't do anything to help his dog.

When asked for comment, the store owner would only say it was a "heart-breaking tragedy."

Update: The Land of Pawz has issued a statement on its Facebook page

Reynolds believes the manager was negligent.

"Not calling 911. Not following a standard operating procedure of 'this is what you do if this happens.' I said to the animal control officer, if this was a day care facility for children, the first thing you do – call 911."

"It's tough, tough when you don't have children. This is my child. My wife and I just don't even know which way to turn at this point."

Both sides have retained lawyers. It's not clear yet what will happen next.
