Ortiz Not Nervous Over Red Sox 3-4 Start: 'Don't Panic'
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Red Sox dropped their third straight game Tuesday night to fall to 3-4 on the new season. Following a frustrating 9-5 loss to Baltimore, doubt is starting to creep in about the 2016 team.
Just don't tell David Ortiz. The Boston DH has been through slow and rocky starts before, and isn't about to overreact in his final MLB season.
"No. Why should I be? We have 150-some more games left," Ortiz said Tuesday night when asked if he was nervous about the start. "Things are going to change. It's early. Don't panic.
"You think I am [panicking]? Look at my face," he added.
When Ortiz turned the question to WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Jonny Miller, who told Papi he is nervous about their 3-4 record, Ortiz had some advice for the veteran reporter.
"Go home and buy a black cat then. That means you're scared," Ortiz said. "No pain, no gain. Alright? It will be fine Jonny, it's early. I know our pitching staff is going to bounce back and put it together."
Ortiz said it's just "a matter of time" until Boston's starting rotation, which owns a Major League-worst 7.32 ERA after Tuesday night, turns things around.
As for Ortiz, he's off to a solid start to his final season in baseball, leading the team with three homers and nine RBIs.
