Ortiz, Gregg Expecting To Hear About Suspension Appeal
BOSTON (CBS) – The Red Sox and Orioles are set to open a three-game series in Baltimore on Monday, but it does not look like David Ortiz and Kevin Gregg will be around for it.
Both appealed the four-game suspensions they received for their parts in the melee at Fenway Park before the All-Star break, and are expected to hear from Major League Baseball before the series begins according to the Orioles team website.
It is believed their suspension will be knocked down to three games, leaving them unavailable for the upcoming series.
Ortiz was upset during the eighth inning of Boston's 10-3 win on July 8 after Gregg threw three straight balls inside. After barking at the Orioles reliever on the third pitch, Ortiz popped out on the fourth. Gregg shouted at Ortiz, telling him to run out the pop-up. Ortiz took exception and charged the mound.

Losing Ortiz for the series will hurt Boston, but it will give them a chance to DH Carl Crawford as he returns from a hamstring injury and still play Josh Reddick in the field.
