One Week 'Til Spring

The Vernal Equinox is one week from today, March 20 @ 1:14 a.m.!  The Vernal Equilux will be this Saturday, March 17 (St. Patrick's Day), which is the day with equal day/equal night...12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of night.

There will be a few spot showers around this morning due to a warm front travelling northward. Then, there will be a few breaks of sun this afternoon.

A cold pool of air aloft will provide a chance of a few showers/isolated thunder to develop later this afternoon into the evening.  It will be another warm one with highs ranging between 65-70.

A cold front will sweep through early tonight which will induce the wind shift to the west.

A backdoor cold front will 'back-in' early on Wednesday creating a cooler scenario, especially for neighborhoods located closer to the coast. Highs will be in the upper 40s to upper 50s, depending on how quickly the cold front 'seeps' into the region.  I believe that we will warm-up into the lower to middle 50s by midday before temperatures back-off due to the wind shifting onshore.

Thursday's onshore winds will hold temperatures in the middle to upper 40s.  Skies will be partly sunny during the day.

Friday will start off dry but showers will develop as the day progresses.  Highs will return to the lower and middle 50s.

It's the last weekend of winter '12.  Skies will become partly cloudy on Saturday, and highs will come close to 60F. Sunday will be mostly sunny with highs in the middle 60s.   A blocking ridge will begin to build this weekend and stand strong through late next week. This will mean dry weather will prevail along with unseasonably warm temperatures.

Looking way ahead...

Obviously, a lot will change from now until March 27, but will there be a last 'snow' hurrah on that day?  That's what the GFSx is showing this morning. We shall see...
