Neighbors said it sounded like a bomb went off at the house on Pleasant Street around 8 a.m.

The Cape-style home was not leveled, but its windows and doors were blown out, a kitchen porch collapsed and there are now cracks in the siding.

A father and his two adult daughters were in the home at the time. The first explosion came from the basement causing a fire and a smaller blast.

The daughters were asleep and were not hurt.

The father was awake. He suffered first-and-second degree burns and was taken to a hospital.

His wife was not home at the time.  She had already left for work.

There's no official word yet what on caused the blast, but National Grid shut down natural gas service in the area and surrounding homes were evacuated briefly as a precaution.

National Grid is also taking a look at their records to see if there were any "odor of gas" calls or gas line work done in the neighborhood recently, but there has been no indication of that yet. The gas will remain shut off at the house.
