Quincy Driver Killed, Passenger Critically Injured In Hingham Crash
HINGHAM (CBS) -- A 51-year-old Quincy driver died and his passenger was critically injured in a two-vehicle crash on Route 3A Monday in Hingham.
Hingham Police were called to the crash at the intersection of Chief Justice Cushing Highway (Route 3A) and Kilby Street around 10:18 a.m.
Investigators say a Ford Ranger pickup truck traveling north on Kilby drove into the path of a Nissan Pathfinder that was traveling west on Route 3A. The Nissan hit the passenger's side door of the truck, causing it to spin and roll onto its passenger's side, while the Nissan went off the road and hit a small fence, police said.
Police noted that the traffic on Kilby has both a posted stop sign and a flashing red light.
First responders found the truck on its side, with the driver and passenger trapped. They were freed and rushed to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth.
The driver was pronounced dead at the hospital, and his passenger, a 61-year-old Quincy man, was transferred to Brigham and Women's Hospital, police said. Neither men were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Nissan, a 43-year-old Marshfield woman, suffered minor injuries and declined to go to the hospital, police say. She was traveling alone and was wearing her seat belt.
The victims will be identified after their families have been notified.
Route 3A was closed between Summer Street and Route 228. Kilby Street was also closed following the accident. The area was re-opened by 2 p.m.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
