Woman Killed, 4 Hurt After 7 Car Crash On I-95 In Norwood
NORWOOD (CBS) – A woman was killed and four other people were hurt in an accident involving seven cars on Interstate 95 early Wednesday morning.
It happened in the northbound lanes before the Neponset Street exit in Norwood just after 2 a.m.
In a statement, State Police spokesman Dave Procopio said the crash was "a series of three consecutive collisions at the same spot."
It was "triggered when a 2004 Audi A4 lost control, struck the guardrail and spun around, so that it was facing oncoming traffic."
It was then hit by a 2008 Cadillac DTS with four people inside it. One of the passengers, Elefthria Pantekidis, 71, of Jamiaica Plain, died. The driver, Haralambos Kosmidis, 75, of Jamaica Plain, and two other passengers were hurt.
The driver of the Audi, Milton McCarthy, 23, of Dorchester, was seriously injured. He was rushed to Boston Medical Center where he remained in critical condition Wednesday afternoon.
It's not clear yet what caused the crash.
No charges have been filed at this point in the investigation.
