One-Day Cooldown

A backdoor cold front is on the way.  We will reach our high temperatures earlier in the day due to this front and the onshore wind that will be the end result.

The temperatures forecast is very complex today so please bear with me.

High temperatures will be reached between 10 a.m. and noon for the New Hampshire seacoast and the North Shore (~60).

Boston to Worcester around noon to 2 p.m.,  lower 60s for Boston to 65-70 for Worcester and central Massachusetts.

The S.Coast/Cape/Islands around 1-to 3 p.m. of upper 40s to middle 50s with morning patchy fog, onshore winds, and more cloud cover.

There will be patches of clouds, a chance for a spot sprinkle or two, and patchy dense fog for the coast tonight.

Lows will be between the upper 30s and middle 40s.

A well-defined 500H blocking ridge will be the domimant weather feature for most of the week.

Spring arrives at 1:14 a.m. on Tuesday!

Speaking of Tuesday, warmer temperatures will return just in time for Spring's debut.

Coastal areas will remain cooler in the upper 50s for the Cape/Islands to the middle and upper 60s for other coastal neighborhoods.  Inland locales will reach 70-75.  The only reason that temperatures would be a few degrees cooler than we are forecasting would be if the cloud cover erodes less quickly than expected.

Wednesday and Thursday are showing promise of being the warmest days this week.

Wednesday will be in the middle-to-upper 70s inland with temperatures closer to the 70 mark along the coast.

Thursday will be a 'record-breaker' for many cities and towns as temperatures skyrocket into the 80's.

Record highs, thus far, for March 22, are as follows - Boston: 72 in 1948, Worcester: 76 in 1938, and Hyannis: 61 in 1938.

Friday will be cooler as a cold front moves through southern New England Thursday night.

Highs will reach 60-65 for an afternoon maximum.

The first weekend of Spring '12 will be cooler with highs in the middle 50s on Saturday and near 60 on Sunday.

The weekend is looking dry until Sunday afternoon when there is a chance of rain.
