You can save yourself quite a bit of time (and minimize headache risk) by skipping 99% of the endless analysis of the far-away 2012 presidential election. Instead, I suggest keeping an eye on the one factor that seems to undercut presidential job-approval most intensely, one which is already proving toxic to President Obama's ratings and seems likely to remain a problem right through election day - gas prices.
