NY Post's Brian Costello: 'This Is It For Rex Ryan'
BOSTON (CBS) - Maybe you were like 98.5 The Sports Hub's Adam Jones to start the NFL season, and felt like the New York Jets would give the Patriots the best competition in the AFC East.
Through six weeks, that's hardly the case.
The Jets have no secondary, no offensive weapons, a quarterback that doesn't understand time zones and as a result, a head coach fighting for his job.
With Rex Ryan on the hot seat seemingly every year, we've seen the Jets bounce back, rattle off wins at the end of the season and extend the Ryan shelf life for at least another calendar.
But at 1-5, only a miracle could save Rex Ryan this season -- contract extension be damned.
Brian Costello of the New York Post came on with Adam Jones Monday night to provide a state of the J-E-T-S.
"Rex's contract extension is only guaranteed through next year, and teams will gladly fire a coach with only one year left on his contract and eat the money," said Costello. "There's really nothing beyond 2015. If they don't make the playoffs this year that'll be four straight years with no playoffs and probably four straight years with a non-winning season. How does a coach survive that in the NFL? It rarely happens. I think this is it for Rex, unless they go on some sort of dramatic run to end the season."
Costello also touched on what specifically has gone wrong for the Jets this season, the possibility of New England signing Darrelle Revis long term and much more.
