2 Winners In $587.5 Million Powerball Jackpot
BOSTON (CBS) — There were two winning tickets in the record $587.5 million Powerball jackpot drawn late Wednesday night.
They were sold in Arizona and Missouri.
The winning numbers were: 5, 16, 22, 23, 29 and Powerball of 6.
Four tickets in Massachusetts matched the first five numbers, but not the powerball. Each of those tickets is worth $1 million.
Massachusetts Lottery spokeswoman Beth Bresnahan told WBZ-TV they were sold at City Convenience on Beacon Street in Boston, Galaxy Newsstand on Southbridge Street in Auburn, Tedeschi's on Union Street in Rockland, and the 7-Eleven on Washington Street in Boston.
There were 58 $1 million winners nationwide.
The $587.5 million jackpot is the second-largest lottery payout in U.S. history.
A Mega Millions drawing in March, won by three people who split $656 million, is still the largest jackpot in history.
Sue Dooley, a production coordinator for the Multi-State Lottery Association, told CBS Radio News Thursday the jackpot increased to $587.5 million by the time of the drawing, making the cash option $384 million, which will be split equally.
8,924,123 players won smaller prizes, Dooley said.
