Not All Bad...

Well I certainly wasn't expecting a washout today but a rogue low came closer to New England than expected and soaked us with over a half an inch of rain in spots.  That same low is now sliding north and east into the Gulf of Maine and rain will continue to diminish to drizzle as we go through the course of the night.

Tomorrow will be a much better day, yes it will start out murky with low clouds and fog, but early in the afternoon the sun will poke through especially away from the coastline.  Towns inland that see more extensive sunshine will warm to between 75-80 degrees...the warmth and humidity will promote some afternoon convection and showers and thunderstorms will pop-up again especially away from the coast.  They will be scattered in nature so not every town will see one but those that do will get soaked with these slow moving rainmakers.  Closer to the coast with highs near 70 the chance for showers and storms will be more limited but still present.  Very little will change for Thursday and Friday as the airmass will remain warm and moist and any early afternoon sunshine should be enough to bubble up scattered showers and storms.  Highs will be similar each day...near 70 coast, 75-80 inland.

On Saturday, a coldfront will be closing in on us from the NW.  Out ahead of the front, winds will turn more southwesterly and temps will shoot up to between 80-85.  With that kind of heat around, the incoming coldfront has a very good chance to trigger some strong thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.  What happens to that coldfront is the big question for the second half of the weekend and Memorial Day itself.  There are some indications that the front will stall right over us and keep us unsettled with scattered showers and storms for Sunday and maybe even again on Monday.  In the end the frontal boundary in the middle will be active with waves of showers and storms.  It's a little premature to pinpoint when and if we will see each wave but as of now it looks like late Saturday and again on Sunday with a break for Memorial Day.  Hopefully we can be more specific tomorrow for you.
