Norwell Man Faces Charges Following Car Explosion
QUINCY (CBS) -- A Norwell man has been charged in connection with a car explosion that occurred Saturday in Quincy.
Police responded to the explosion on Falls Boulevard shortly before midnight on Saturday. The driver, 36-year-old Joseph Brennan, of Norwell, suffered minor injuries in the blast and was transported to a nearby hospital.
Police allegedly found bomb-making materials in the car. A search of Brennan's home also yielded additional bomb-making material, police said.
Investigators also searched Brennan's friend's Hingham town home where more materials were found. Several nearby homes were evacuated Monday afternoon as the State Police Bomb Squad secured the scene.
Bomb-making materials were removed from the garage of 18 Backriver Road and safely detonated by the the bomb squad. Benjamin Young, 27, of Hingham will be summonsed to court.
"This is very, very, very serious," Hingham Fire Chief Mark Duff said. "Somebody could have been very seriously hurt or killed."
Officials said this case is not related to terrorism.
Brennan was arraigned from his hospital bedside Monday afternoon and is being held without bail.
