North End Honors Boston Police Officer Killed In 1921

BOSTON (CBS) - A special dedication was held in the North End today for the first Italian American Boston police officer killed in the line of duty.

Descendants of Patrolman Andrew Cuneo were at the ceremony that honored his service.

Cuneo Was shot and killed 90 years ago while trying to wrestle away a pistol from a former police officer after the suspect opened fire on a store.

Patrolman Cuneo had served with the agency for 15 years. He was survived by his wife and nine children.

On Saturday, he was recognized with a plaque near Paul Revere Mall.

Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis spoke at the ceremony.

"His determination, courage and leadership embodied today in the men and women who are here before you are the foundation we continue to build upon," said Davis.
